Julie is an attorney and a nationally renowned expert in client and business development for lawyers, law firms and other professional services entities. Throughout her 25 years of practice, she has helped thousands of lawyers and firms generate millions of dollars in new business through her nationally renowned training, coaching and consulting services.
She also assists in building, advising and supporting the in-house marketing, business development and training departments for many of the world's leading professional services firms. Depending upon her clients' situation, needs and objectives, Julie serves as a coach, advisor, consultant, trainer, strategist, curriculum/program designer, planner and/or professional business developer. She created and maintains the Ultimate Business Development Tool Kit™ and the award-nominated Rainmaker Coach™ app, the first of its kind in the legal industry.

She is the author of more than 100 articles and has been published in leading legal journals such as The American Lawyer and The National Law Journal. She is frequently quoted and has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, London's Legal Business and
Australia's Financial Times. She is also the author of the definitive, 1500-page handbook entitled
'Client Development & Relationship Management - Getting New Business in the Door©'.
She wrote and regularly updates the landmark study and compilation, Benchmarking "Best Practices"

At the University of Detroit Mercy Law School, Julie served as adjunct professor for one of the first law school courses in the country on client relations and development. Julie is listed on the ABA Women and Minority Speakers Bureau under law practice management. Her company, Business Development Inc. is a certified woman owned business by the
Women's Business Enterprise National Council.
In recognition of the quality of her work, Julie has won an "Excellence in Continuing Legal Education" award, an American Bar Association award for "Dignity in Law Firm Advertising" and was part of the team that won a 2007 "Your Honor" award from the Legal Marketing Association, was nominated for a 2013 "Your Honor" award for Rainmaker Coach™ app, and was also nominated in 2013 for The National Law Journal's "Best Of" awards in the "Best in Lawyer/Law Firm Business Development & Coaching" category.
Julie and her company support numerous charitable and community entities and efforts. She devoted significant pro bono time towards helping protect the sanctity of military funerals by serving pro bono as communication strategist for the 2010 United States Supreme Court Case Snyder v. Phelps, which culminated on August 6, 2012 when the President of the United States signed a new law containing a provision prohibiting all military funeral protests nationwide to 2 hours before and 2 hours after any such service.
Her prior in-house experience includes serving as Director of Business Development at the national accounting and management consulting firm of Grant Thornton and as Marketing Director at the law firm of Butzel Long.
Julie holds a law degree from The University of Detroit Law School, where she won the American Jurisprudence Award for outstanding performance in trial practice and Best Brief & Oral Advocate Award for Moot Court. She is a 1987 M.B.A. graduate from Michigan State University, where she majored in finance and marketing. During that time, she helped develop new revenue sources for a Domino's Pizza franchisee and the Stroh Brewery. She also holds an undergraduate degree in political science from The University of Michigan.
